  • In this example I asked, Loons run on water to fly...  like or unlike what?
  • I couldn’t think of a familiar water bird that runs on water to fly, so I tried to think of a water bird that does not run on water to fly.
  • I thought of sea gulls.
  • I did not want to forget this unlike idea, so I marked an X after Like or Unlike What?
  • I will continue to read all my notes and ask, Like or Unlike What?
  • As I mark the X’s, I will stack them.
  • Soon I will choose a few X’s from my stack, and I will write the like/unlike comparisons on my cards.
  • My likenesses / differences:  • must make sense    • must be true    • must not be silly.
