  • I read my note, “fly south for the winter,” and I added, “FOR WHAT REASON?”
  • I thought of loons needing open water for food, and I thought of northern lakes, covered with ice each winter.
  • I marked a large X after REASON, and I set this card aside to begin a stack of notes that will have a large X after REASON.
  • I will soon choose a few cards, and I will write REASONS on them.
  • I stack the X’s now, so they will be together when I choose REASONS to write into my report.
  • My REASONS: • must make sense  • must be true • must not be silly.
